Microsoft crop is going to defer the $450 million to $550 million of revenue that would be generated this quarter from an offer to upgrade to its new Windows 8 operating system.
In this strategy, Microsoft is offering the customers, who purchases authorized Windows 7 PCs, to download an upgrade windows 8 Pro for about $14.99.
“From our perspective it’s business as usual. This is the way they do these big launches,” said Cross Research analyst Richard Williams.
Microsoft would launch Windows 8 by October or November and it will be the first windows operating on not only PCs but also tablets. This new version could be the strong competitor for Apple Inc. and Google’s Android.
